Anti-Graffiti Program

Graffiti like this is more than just an eyesore; it results in millions of dollars of damage to Maricopa County citizens' homes and businesses every year.

To combat this growing trend, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office Community Action Bureau created an Anti-Graffiti Program, which includes a strict prosecution policy and community education. In addition, the County Attorney's Office participates in "paint-outs," in which governmental agencies, neighborhood activists and others assist in painting over graffiti in our community.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has employed various investigative techniques, including hidden cameras, to catch graffiti vandals in the act. Convicted graffiti vandals can receive over three years in prison, loss of their driver's license or ability to get a license until they are 18, and can be ordered to pay full restitution to victims. Additionally, courts may impose fines up to $150,000, and minor vandal's parents may be held liable up to $10,000.

The Phoenix Police Department and Phoenix Community Alliance sponsor a Graffiti Hotline at (602) 262-7327. This hotline can help if you believe you know the identity of a person who committed a graffiti crime. You should call 911 for graffiti in progress
